Working with a European marketing company, we were asked to manage the backend work for a promotional campaign for Mars’ Twix chocolate bar.
The Christmas promotion offered chocolate bars with competition codes offering customers the chance to win spot prizes and go into the draw for a grand prize. From specially marked chocolate bars, customers were directed to a promotion website which provided the interface and branding for the campaign. The site also offered the option to generate a unique code for the user when they visit. Prefer was asked to create a solution to manage the competition codes, code checking and generation and database feedback.
Our solution was to build an API to manage the process and track code validity and availability. The solution had to be able to process and handle over 10 million codes reliably and securely. We also created a staging environment to ensure easy access and liaising across a VPN with European partners.
